| Moving from Newcastle UK to Vegas - Help and advice need :-) |

I'm new to this site and I'm looking for some advice from anyone who might be able to help me concerning moving to Vegas from the UK. I know it's a long and complicated procedure what with visas and work permits but I've been wanting to do this for years and now is really the time!
I have registered with the mgm site and tried to apply for jobs on there but most ask for eligbility to work in the States. The problem now is that you can only apply for a visa if you have a job offer. It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation here... which do I need to do first?!
Anyone who has been through this same experience or that has any knowledge of the above I would love to hear from you. I've visited Vegas a few times and I work in the leisure/hotel industry and have a degree in business so I do have the skills required. I know you'll all be going through the credit crunch too so I'd imagine it's pretty hard to get jobs as an outsider. I'm open to all ideas and comments.
Thanks,
Jess - Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

HI, I have had a few clients that have had the same situation. When they were going through this , it was all about getting a job lined up first so they could get their visa. It might be challenging but with patience I'm sure you will achieve your goal. I know the last person I worked with after he got a visa said he let everyone that he applied to, know his issues. I remember how frustrated he was. Good luck . Rhonda Brinkerhoff ABR,CRS,GRI

Thanks Rhonda, that's encouraging. So start with the job first then I guess and keep persevering! With your line of work, if things worked out for me would I contact someone like you to shortlist properties for me to view when I'm over there? I knwo things work differently with estate agents in the states as they do in the UK.

I cant promise you anything but I do know a lot of people that work for MGM Corporation. Having a business degree and having experience should get you an interview. I also know they are hiring since City Center opend.
If you send them your resume, I can ask some people I know to see if they could get the proper people to look at it.
As far as Real estate goes, I would love to help you once you are ready for that. I forgot how it works there but I know its different. In Nevada , the buyer does not pay the Realtor to purchase a home. Commissions always come from the selling side. Rhonda Brinkerhoff ABR,CRS,GRI

That is so kind of you,thank you. It's hard to get started over here when you don't know anyone out there! I have registered on their website and filled in all of my details such as employment history, education and previous addresses etc. I couldn't find any email addresses on their site so I guessed they must only like using the one application process. If you do know anyone there that can access my info my details are (so they can find me!);

They should be able to track me down with this. I spent about 2 hours filling everything in! My resume is also on there. I'm so grateful for your help. I'm willing to do any sort of job to get started but my experience is within sales and customer service. In the UK there aren't really specific customer service roles like there seem to be in Vegas, (the hotels just aren't as big here!) and those are the type of jobs I'd love to get.
Thanks again for your help so far. It's 6 inches deep in snow here, I am dreaming of your fabulous weather.

Hi Rhonda,
Thanks so much for this, I really appreciate it. I'm so grateful for the time you've spent in doing this and do let me know if they have any problems finding me as I can always send a Resume and Covering Letter if they would prefer. I'm making as many applications as possible at the moment but MGM is the corporation I'd most like to work for. We had a programme aired here recently 'Piers Morgan does Vegas' and they showed the new Aria development which has just had such a lasting impression on me. It must be such an amazing place to live, hopefully everything will work out. Thanks again.

Hi Rhonda,
It was through their website; www.mgmmiragecareers.com
It was on Wednesday 6th January that I submitted everything. I'm not sure where that would go to as I had to do everything through an online application form rather than email something over. I'd guess HR department? I hope she finds it! I can send something by email?
Jess
KCSCOTT - I live just round the corner from the football stadium in the city centre, from my balcony you can hear the crowd celebrate when they score! They should go back up again really, big surprise to see Newcastle Utd outside the premiership. Do you still get to see uk football in the states? I would be more excited to see your american football games, my dad has followed it for years but you have to watch it at like 3am as it's not so popular here!
