| Possibly moving to Vegas? Need opinions? |

So, I am in the initial phases of possibly relocating from California (the bay area) to Las Vegas. I have lived in the bay area all of my life and am looking for a new start. I have accomplished a lot out here and just feel the need for something different. My best friend lives in Vegas and says that at first she didn't like it, however she adjusted and now is content with it because it is affordable and everything seems to "fit" now. I am an LVN (licensed vocational nurse) and am wondering how the job market is for nurses, well specifically LVN's. I have a 4 year old daughter and can use help with opinions on schools and daycare/ after school programs. I am looking to rent an apartment or condo or even home. But a condo seems ideal. I plan on possibly moving with a cousin. she has a 1 year old. She is looking for better opportunities as well. We both are seeking more independence and a change from what we see as a place where things are getting worse by the day. We are looking to step out from under our parents wings and become independent with minimal or little help from family. No doubt, they will support our goals, but we feel the need to fly solo and began a new journey. It is so expensive in the bay area. Its hard to attain a job making enough money to live comfortably and possibly still go to school. We are both looking to continue with our education as well. Community College is ideal. I'd like to find a transition program to become an RN. She's looking to begin her college education. We both are looking for something affordable and close to good schools for our children. We are willing to pay maybe $700-$800 for a 2 or 3 bedroom place. FYI You can't even find a nice studio for that price out in the bay! Maybe in a run down, crime infested neighborhood. Any suggestions or opinions are welcome! We will take them constructively. Honest opinions from residents of Vegas, especially new residents are greatly appreciated. By the way our ages are 25 and 20 if that helps at all
Thanks

There's already quite a bit of apartment advice in the Thinking of moving to Vegas thread, but I think you should have no problem finding a place in the $700 to $800 range. Due to bank accounting regulation changes it looks like banks will be holding on to foreclosed properties for a long time, so there will be a lot of rentals on the Las Vegas market for the foreseeable future.
As for medical employment, you should look around before coming here. I recall reading that Sunrise Hospital laid-off 100 workers a few months back. The job market for nurses might be soft right now, so make sure of what you're doing.
But you're sure to save a fortune on rent in Las Vegas compared to the Bay area.

It really depends on what area of town you would be comfortable living in . Its really hard to find a 3 bed room for less than 800.00 in what we call the prime areas . You should call Centennial Hills hospital, a couple of months ago they were hiring , not sure about now. Good luck. Rhonda Brinkerhoff ABR,CRS,GRI
